Remember back when I said I didn't remember the last time something broke in my car? Of course you don't. But I did say that, and now, something did break, behold:

Fortunately, this part to the left is just the switch that controls the fan speed. These things aren't expensive, and I already got a new one coming in the mail, but, for the time being, I don't have air conditioning in the car. Or rather, I do, because the AC itself is just fine, and so is the fan switch at maximum speed. I can turn it on at max and it feels like being in the middle of an cold hurricane, but if I use the first three speeds, it feels like someone who just had a tube of Mentos is coughing on my face. It's a good thing the winter finally decided to pick up I guess...

In my experience, the fan speed thing is more related to the fan speed resistor assembly, and not the switch per se. In my environment (corrosive and abusive as hell being maritime sub-tropics) I've replaced these in a Ford Escort (twice), a Toyota Previa (just once) and a Ford F150 (once) [which we won't discuss very much.]

If the switch isn't the thing, then it's the downside resistor arrangement which is usually mounted right next to the fan assembly and gets all the weather and/or coolbox condensation on it.

Yeah, I thought of othe gremlins that could be causing this, but I'm prettu sure it's that bit. Because I kind of accidentally broke it...
